When Cultures Collide

Wow, this has been a great week!

On Saturday, I went to the Hmong Heritage Month Cultural Fair at one of the local high schools.  This was so much fun.  I manned a booth there for 4-H.  I talked to a lot of great people who were interested in 4-H. As a way of keeping records, I had them vote for what they would like to learn about the most in 4-H.  I got a count of about forty-five, but I talked to more people than that.  I shared my booth with WNEP and had a great healthy snack to go with it. Here are some great pictures!

I think this is something that 4-H will have to do this again next year.

Yesterday, was my very first session for the Community Service Afterschool Program.  I'm doing a dry run of it for some fourth and fifth graders at one of the local elementary school.  The first session was fantastic! We only got halfway through my lesson plan, but that is what the dry run is for, so I can work out all those kinks.
What we did cover was great.  We did a fun teamwork exercise using a name grid.  Then we talked about community service and what community service was.  I think they are starting to get the hang of it. They also seemed to be really excited about the community service hours challenge I gave them.  I challenged them to do two hours of community service over the next five weeks. Here are some pictures of what we did!

I'm really looking forward to next week!

Until Then!
